iPhood files: Oodles of orange noodles at the mall

Note: “iPhood files” refers to food Niyaz eats on the run and photographs with his iPhone. In the future, look for Jeff’s installments of “ObsoleteMotorolaRazor files.”

It’s very rare that I actually go to the mall to seek out some sustenance.

If I do, it’s usually a quick trip to Mrs. Fields for some cookies, but for the most part, I try to stay as far away from the mall as possible for the benefit of my wallet and state of mind (you try hitting up the mall with Fiancee Nadia).

If there is a reason to eat at the mall, it’s definitely for the orange noodles served up at Hawaiian Express in Santa Ana’s MainPlace Mall.

The noodles are fairly unique, as they’re bright orange firstly, and delicious for mall food secondly. They’ve got loads of garlic and strips of cabbage and beat the pants off poser Panda Express anyday.

On a recent trip I ordered the noodles with their barbeque chicken and pineapple chicken. The barbeque chicken is charred and delicious, but the pineapple chicken left a lot to be desired. I should have gone with the barbeque pork instead. I added on a guava smoothie, too, as Hawaiian Express whips up over a dozen flavors.

The smoothie was fresh and flavorful, but a large proved too much. Just go with the small to save some change is my advice. For the juice and the grub I paid about $10, but they’ve got a special with chicken, rice, noodles, steamed veggies and a drink for $6.99 right now.
