Very belated, sorry folks — it was one of those weeks. Make that a double. Not sure how much longer Gluttonista is going to be around as some things are changing around here, but it has been an absolute joy to eat and share with you all …
- Kat’s on a pizza kick — her pants are really going to hurt — at Me-N-Ed’s, er, South Coast Pizza Parlors in Costa Mesa, where the kitschy decor and crisp slices of pie take her right back to 1988
- Kat and Ellyn follow the hype to Siam Taste Of Asia in Santa Ana and fall in love with the homey Thai fare, especially the impossibly perfect garlic tofu (must-try!)
- Jen checks out the newish Cantina Lounge in Fullerton, (formerly Off Campus Pub) and finds some tasty lobster tacos and steak fajitas
- Dolcissimo in Costa Mesa becomes the first trendy O.C. cupcake shop to close its doors after just a few months in business. I’ll miss the Chocolate Fantasy and bourbon vanilla cupcakes.
- The tastiest little sandwiches have been under my nose all this time: Venezuelan arepas at Mil Jugos in Santa Ana
Recently in other OC food blogs:
- An excerpt from Griffin’s review of the tom kha gai soup at Cha Thai in Orange: “I took a big spoonful and put it in my mouth. POW! It was like a sour citrus fruit kicking you in the crotch while a can of coconut milk is hurled at your neck!”
- Dan over at Eat in OC hit up Tustin Brewing Company (whoa, didn’t even know there was one) for some “wood-fried” pizza and Hefeweizen
- Edwin Goei of Monster Munching ignores the hot weather and heads to Mitsu-E Shabu Shabu in Fullerton for some Japanese hot pot action
- ChristianZ of OC Mexican Restaurants heads south to Laguna Beach for some zucchini enchiladas and dulce de leche and banana chimichanga at Coyote Grill

Say it ain’t so Kat! You are one of the only things I read from the Register anymore. Getting rid of Gluttonista would be a huge mistake for them.
WHAT?!! No more Gluttonista?!! I want to sign a petition! This food blog is the only reason why I visit the register’s website! I’m going to write a letter to the paper!
Thirdsies. I have this blog bookmarked and I probably wouldn’t bother with the OCR otherwise.
I check your blog daily - it’s one of my favs! Enough with all the changes over there, it’s getting very frustrating!
Dan, OC gal, Laura, Dina
Aw, thanks you guys! Eh, you know, it’s tough times and with our shrunken staff, there’s a lot less of us to go around and sadly, I don’t think food is viewed as a coverage priority. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed anyway!
BOO!!! I love reading your blog. So sad that to see that the economic downturn is starting to affect even the joys of ogling over food. Food coverage should always be a priority! Heck it brings in readership and isn’t that what the Register is going after? Darn it! Tell them to add a couple more ads to this blog if that’ll help pay the bills.
One think people turn to in economic turmoil is FOOD. Viva la FOOD!
Kat,
If Gluttonista closes on the OC Register, you’ll re-open it somewhere else, right?!?!?!
Just another fan of Gluttonista showing support! Don’t leeeeaaaave…
What?
And WHY?
There are a lot of people who read this section.
OCR needs to realize that when you review, and we can read, they, (OCR) are doing a community service in promoting restaurants in the OC.
It is good business relations.
The more people come to visit OC the more likely to stay.
OCR please re-think your decision.
Remember EVERYONE NEEDS to EAT.
.
I am so disappointed that it appears that the Gluttonista blog has been shut down. It was the only thing I really looked forward to reading on the site. I hope that those in charge reverse their decision.
