Campitelli’s Cookies

These are the cookies I imagine Miss Maudie in “To Kill A Mockingbird” would make. They are reminiscent of a different time, when our tastes were simpler, before anybody had the notion of chopping the very best chocolate or using dried cranberries for cookies.
What you’re getting here are cookies that tastes like butter and sugar. Almost all of them are soft. My favorite is the iced sugar cookie. It’s chewy and sweet and I can detect, in a single slow bite, the different texture of the frosting and then the cookie.
Last week, our August birthday girl received a little gift pack from Campitelli’s. I immediately reached for the sugar cookie but word was that the raisin cookie was very good. The birthday girl loved the chocolate cookie with peanut butter chips. And the sugar cookie was exactly what I expected. But that raisin cookie was startling good. Every bite was soft and yet beguiling.

If you think their cookies are good, try their sandwiches. Simple and scrumptious!

I took a side trip to Brea (I was within 8 miles, after all) to try these cookies. The peanut butter is the best I have ever tried.
I believe the price has gone up to $1.25 a cookie.
