Pink’s Hot Dogs

Something had to make up for a grueling trek to Los Angeles last Thursday. Traffic and hot weather were defeating. But once off the 101 Freeway at Melrose, then a few miles down to La Brea, the Pink’s sign came into full view. Parking was a snap, but the line in front of the stand was s-l-o-w.

The bacon chili cheese dog ($3.95) and the chili dog with sauerkraut ($2.90) both sounded good, but heat has a way of dampening an appetite, so I ordered a simple chili cheese dog ($2.95). It was everything a good dog needs to be, full of flavor, bursting with juice and loaded - hot chili, cold diced onion, mustard and a slice of cheese sitting snugly in a soft bun.

Fortified by a solid dinner, it was then on to the Hollywood Bowl to see Belle & Sebastian.

Pink’s, 709 N. La Brea Blvd., Los Angeles. (323) 931-4223. (Cash only!)

Pink’s needs to open here in the OC. Why is it that all the really cool, gritty places are mostly in LA?
