Yes, that’s right. I stopped in yesterday for a catfish po’ boy and pecan pie. The minute I saw fried pickles on the white board I had to ask. Nothing she could say prepared me for what I got: sliced dill pickles coated in crunchy cornmeal, deep fried and served with a slightly sour ranch dressing. I still don’t know if they were good or not. Perplexed, we finished them off, every single nickel-sized slice. Oh, and the crumbs of fried cornmeal, those gone too.
Half order of fried pickles are $2.49; full order is $3.49.

Sounds interesting! But how were the hush puppies? We’ve gone there once, and made the long drive only to find the hush puppies were awful. Not just burnt and lukewarm, but… well, just north of rancid. Barbecue was fine, fried okra was light and crispy (but as an appetizer?!?), but the cornbread was dry and the Brunswick Stew was all wrong.
I’ll forgive all if it turns out the hush pupppies were just having a bad day and have snapped out of it. Maybe the fried pickles cheered them up?
